The fuel filter means a fuel filter device, which is connected in series on the pipeline between the fuel pump and the oil inlet of the throttle body, generally on the side of the engine common rail system, through which better diesel oil can be obtained, thereby protecting the normal operation of the engine, reducing wear, avoiding blockage, and increasing the life of the engine. It has two functions, one is to filter solid harmful impurities, and the other is to filter water in the fuel.

Coarse and fine filters on Weichai WP10 series engines

Diesel coarse filters are generally installed before the low-pressure oil pump, mainly used to filter coarse solid particle impurities in diesel, and their installation positions are either on the engine or on the beam.

Diesel fine filters are installed after the low-pressure oil pump and before the high-pressure oil pump. They are mainly used to filter fine solid particle impurities (3-5μm) to obtain higher quality diesel. Their installation positions are all near the oil pump of the engine.

● Oil-water separation is one of the functions of the coarse filter

Diesel in my country has a high sulfur content. When burned, it is easy to react with water to produce sulfuric acid and then corrode engine parts. The main function of the oil-water separator is to separate water from diesel. It is installed below the coarse filter, that is, the transparent filter cup. Its principle is to remove impurities and water based on the density difference between water and fuel and use the gravity sedimentation principle.
