About Heavy Truck Filters

The filtration system of a heavy truck is similar to that of a light passenger car, but due to the greater workload that heavy trucks bear, their filtration system is also more complex and durable.

1. Air Filter
Function: The main function of the air filter is to filter the air entering the engine, remove dust and other contaminants to protect the components inside the engine and maintain the performance and efficiency of the engine.
Type: Heavy trucks usually use larger and more durable air filters, and sometimes they are equipped with pre-filters to capture larger particles.
Maintenance: Air filter maintenance is particularly important for heavy trucks because these vehicles often work in dusty environments. It is recommended to check and clean or replace the filter element regularly, especially when working in harsh environments.
2. Oil Filter
Function: The oil filter is used to remove contaminants and impurities from the engine oil to ensure that the oil can effectively lubricate the engine parts and reduce wear.
Type: The oil filter of a heavy truck is larger to accommodate more impurities and provide a longer replacement cycle.
Maintenance: The frequency of changing the oil filter usually matches the oil change cycle. It is recommended to change it regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
3. Fuel Filter
Function: The fuel filter is used to remove impurities and water from the fuel to protect the fuel system and injectors.
Type: Fuel filters in heavy trucks are usually larger and sometimes include a water separator, especially in diesel trucks.
Maintenance: The replacement cycle of the fuel filter is longer, but it still needs to be checked and replaced regularly according to the use of the vehicle and the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Cabin Air Filter
Function: The cabin air filter filters dust, pollen and other pollutants in the air in the car to improve the air quality in the cockpit.
Type: The cabin air filter in heavy trucks is usually larger to accommodate the larger space in the cabin. Common types are paper filters and activated carbon filters.
Maintenance: It is recommended to replace it every 12,000 to 15,000 kilometers, but the specific time may vary depending on the driving environment and usage.
5. Coolant Filter
Function: The coolant filter is used to remove impurities from the coolant and protect the radiator and other cooling system components.
Type: The coolant filter is usually small and installed on the cooling system pipeline.
Maintenance: It needs to be replaced regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations, usually when the coolant is replaced.
6. Air Compressor Filter
Function: In some heavy trucks, the air compressor is used to provide pneumatic power (such as the brake system). This filter is used to remove particles from the compressed air.
Type: There are usually two types: dry and wet.
Maintenance: Depending on the usage, regular inspection and replacement are recommended.
7. Exhaust Filter
Function: Exhaust system filters, such as the diesel particulate filter (DPF) of diesel engines, are used to capture particulate matter in the exhaust and reduce pollutant emissions.
Type: Common ones are DPF and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system.
Maintenance: Regular cleaning and inspection are required to ensure that it works properly and avoid emission system failures.
